A construction materials distributor works closely with builders, contractors, architects and construction personnel to supply the materials needed to complete building projects. As the owner the construction materials distributor is responsible for having materials on-hand when required, having them delivered to the construction site at the given time, and keeping items within costs and estimates given. This means having good networks with construction supply companies, trucking firms, warehouse personnel and even inventory and billing staff.

A construction materials distributor must constantly be watching trends in the construction or building industry and modifying inventory accordingly.

In this highly competitive area the construction materials distributor must be good at marketing, networking and making new contacts in the construction businesses. Price is certainly a big factor on most projects but equally important is quality of service and quality of supplies. Managers must constantly work to provide the highest levels of service and materials at the lowest possible price.

Common work activities include:
« Advertising, marketing, pricing and monitoring inventory to be competitive.
« Purchasing items for inventory, ensuring adequate inventory and constantly  increasing inventory to reflect current trends in the market.
« Meeting with contractors and builders to explain different types of supplies, make recommendations or answer questions.
« Scheduling deliveries and coordinating material delivery and arrival at construction sites.
« Handling customer complaints or issues regarding materials or delivery.
« Overseeing the various departments including billing, sales, marketing and human     resources.

Qualification
B.A., Marketing, Advertising, Journalism or Communications preferred or equivalent, a MBA or MS in Communications

SKILLS REQUIRED
" Strong knowledge of entire marketing tool
" Excellent relationship manager, with strong interpersonal skills.
" Proven high creativity and problem-solving ability.
" Ability to work closely with sales teams / representatives to assess needs.
