Structural engineers mainly work in offices with occasional visits to construction sites.Occasionally there may be a need to work outside these hours, when there are deadlines to meet.

Basically structural engineers construct. They are involved in the design and supervision of the construction of all kinds of structures such as houses, theatres, sports stadium, hospitals, bridges, oil rigs, space satellites and office blocks.

Having chosen appropriate materials - such as steel, brick, concrete or timber - they have to design the structure and make all the necessary checks and calculations to ensure that the foundations will be sound.They develop initial designs, using mathematics to calculate the stress that could arise at each point in the structure, and simulate and model possible situations

Qualification
MSc/Postgraduate Diploma/Postgraduate Certificate
bachelor's or advanced degree in structural engineering
Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communications skills
Knowledge of varieties of structural software products
Strong interest in seismic engineering design
Interest in both retrofit and new building design
Excellent communication skills
Understanding of all phases of design and construction
